MMA,
Up here in Tulsa, the Scout (new Indian) is priced at $18,900. I talked to the salesman last year when it was still in prototypes, and they were planning it as a hard-tail, under $20k, compete against the Softail model. Too bad the Softail is ALOT cheaper and looks better- but the Scout is a nice bike. BTW, did you sit on it? Even with your size, you may find it very comfortable. I actually feel less "stretched out" on the Chief than on the Scout, but I find both more comfortable than HDs (except maybe the Fatboy). Next year Indian is planning on putting out the Warrior, at around $16k. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Anyway, I'ver heard horror stories about bike prices in Dallas. I guess there's too many Yuppies down there. That's my current beef with HD: they are a Yuppy company. Indian can't afford to come down in price because they don't have enough market share. Harley could, but won't, because every time you turn around some cotrporate lawyer or investment banker is buying a new Fatboy to replace the one he bought last year....
Might be worth looking around before you plunk down the $$$$$.
